Condo, Townhome, or Single-Family Home: How to Compare

Different home types come with different features and responsibilities. Here is a simple way to compare them.

Condominium

You own your unit and share ownership of common areas. An HOA usually handles exterior maintenance and shared spaces, funded through dues.

Townhome

Typically multi-level and attached to neighboring homes. Ownership and HOA arrangements vary, so review the documents for each property.

Single-family home

A detached home, often with a yard. You usually handle all maintenance yourself, and some neighborhoods also have an HOA.

Think about the space you need, the maintenance you want to take on, and your monthly costs. Questions about financing are best answered by a lender.
